Children & Young People
The Children & Young People section of this site focuses on the range of initiatives the Health Improvement & Development Service provides aimed at improving the health & wellbeing of Portsmouth's younger age groups.
We have received specific funding over a two-year period (November 2006-November 2008) to pilot different and innovative ways of delivering health services for young people and working with young people around their health.
Healthy well-nourished children learn better and achieve more at school. Encouraging young people to be healthy and concerned to maintain their health, leads to a strong sense of personal worth, and a feeling that they are valued members of their communities.
We aim to support young people before, during and after their school days through healthy eating initiatives, child safety programmes and adolescent health projects. We support Young Carers through the Carers Centre, we have a team dedicated to supporting pregnant and parenting teenagers, and are working with schools and other agencies in Portsmouth to combat smoking and substance misuse among young people.
