The aim of the website is to make it easier for people in Portsmouth to find out what the choices are when it comes to activity options. It is also a great way to provide information to residents as to ‘What’s On’ locally or to allow healthcare professionals to direct their clients to an appropriate activity.
A healthy lifestyle does not necessarily mean drastically changing your diet or joining a gym. Far from it. Research has shown that just becoming more active than usual can have health benefits. Small changes to your everyday life can help you live a happier, healthier and more independent life for longer. Choose an activity which you will enjoy and which is fun. The data base has everything listed from bowling, tea dances, tai chi and chairbased exercise.
Getting started
If you haven’t exercised for a while, getting active again may seem difficult or even frightening. Take things at your own pace and then you can enjoy and benefit from exercise. Remember if you are uncertain as to the suitability of a new class; please check with your GP prior to participation. Then call the centre or instructor just to ensure the class is happening when it’s advertised.
