Tackling Obesity
This section of this site shows how HIDS embraces a wide range of innovative projects and initiatives all geared towards promoting healthy eating and increasing levels of activity.Rates of obesity have dramatically increased in Portsmouth over the past decade. This is a serious health concern as obesity can contribute to a range of problems, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, osteoarthritis and some cancers.
The HIDS team have identified tackling obesity as one of their key priorities and are working in close partnership with other organisations in the city to deliver a range of services and initiatives to address this issue. We aim to use a variety of different styles and approaches in order to appeal to as wide an audience as possible.
Projects range from the creation of Healthy Harvey, a cartoon character chosen and named by schoolchildren, to promote all aspects of healthy eating to our highly regarded Healthy Walks programme.
