Food & Health
The team currently has a number of staff that work predominantly in the field of food and health. The aim of our work is to raise awareness of the links between diet and health and to help individuals develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to eat a healthy diet. As a team we are also tackling the issue of barriers to accessing affordable, healthy food through a variety of project-based work.Although a significant percentage of our activity is based in the community we are also developing strong partnership links with other departments and external organisations in order to reach a wider audience, prevent duplication of work and to provide clear consistent messages.
The work of the food team ranges from a source of advice, support, training and information to the development of educational resources and the provision of basic skills training. Examples of recent large scale projects include a two year obesity and oral health project aimed at children and young people in the city and the development of a healthy eating website designed specifically for older people.
