Prevention & Wellbeing Network
Portsmouth Prevention & Wellbeing Network is a Partnership of statutory services, service providers, voluntary sector organisations and most importantly older people. The members work together providing a broad range of preventive services enabling older people to remain living independently in their own homes with an improved quality of life. The Network includes organisations such as Portsmouth Pensioners,
PCCS,
Age Concern, Salvation Army, Fratton Live at Home Scheme,
Alzheimer's Society,
British Red Cross,
Portsmouth PCT,
PCC Housing, Social Care and Leisure Services Departments.
The Prevention & Wellbeing Network recognises that preventive services must be responsive to the needs and aspirations of older people. Older people are not passive recipients of services that we feel are best for them, they must be involved in the design, delivery and evaluation of all services which effect them.
The benefits of having a Prevention & Wellbeing Network are:
- Exchange of information enabling services to understand more about each other
- Older people to understand more about and gain easier access to services
- Provide a whole systems approach by joining up services and creating more single points of access
- Avoid duplication of services and 'silo' working
- Identify gaps in service provision and explore ways of meeting unmet needs
- A very important interface between older people and service providers
- Helps raise the profile of older peoples services and ensure they are part of the new agenda, e.g. LSP, Community Strategy etc
- Helps to drive the NSF for older people
- Enables bidding for non-statutory funding streams
