The Partnership Project
This new FREE SERVICE is known as the Partnership Project and has been funded by the Pension Service Partnership Fund and provides information, advice and guidance to older people concerning Pension Credit and other entitlements and benefits, as well as other locally available services including leisure and learning opportunities.
Older people in the northern part of the city are being targeted as well as elders from the Chinese and Bangladeshi communities and older carers.
The IAG Champions will contact 'hard to reach' older people and support them in maximising benefit take up and accessing services and leisure and learning opportunities, thereby improving quality of life, promoting independence and reducing social isolation.
As part of the project the newly appointed Carers Outreach Worker, Nikki Jarwood, will be working to assist Carers in the Portsmouth area. Based at both the Portsmouth Carers Centre and the project base in Highgrove Lodge, Drayton; Nikki will be on hand to give information and advice on entitlements and access to benefits. Many Carers have already found an increase in benefits since this project was started.
For more information about this Free Advice Service, please contact Angela, Nikki or Karen at Highgrove Lodge: Telephone (023) 9221 5900 or the Portsmouth Carers Centre. Telephone (023) 9285 1864
This project represents a partnership between HIDS, Learning Links, the DWP, Portsmouth Pensioners Association, and the Financial Assessments and Benefits (FAB) team.

PENSION CREDIT
Have you heard about Pension Credit?
This has replaced income support. Now all capital under £6000 is ignored and, depending on circumstances, you may be entitled to more than you think. Call Nikki and she can make arrangements for a visiting officer from the Pension Service to call and see you at home. There could be some benefits you are entitled to that you are unaware of.
