Falls Prevention
ONE PERSON DIES EVERY 5 HOURS AS A RESULT OF A FALL!
Section 6 of the National Service Framework for Older People (2001) specifically focuses on the issue of falls prevention, and directs the National Health Service and Local Authorities to work together to:
- take action to prevent falls and reduce resultant fractures and other injuries among older people
- ensure that older people who have fallen receive effective treatment and rehabilitation, and, with their carers, receive advice on prevention through a specialised falls service
To undertake this work the City Council has developed the post of the Falls Community Development Worker to work in partnership with a complimentary post within Portsmouth City NHS Trust.
