Video Resources
Video has proved to be a most effective way of getting information across to some sections of our society. However, this is only true if the people at whom the information is aimed are actively involved in the production. We believe in working together with whichever community is the focus of our work, and these videos could not have been so successful without that.
HIDS has so far produced four videos, aimed primarily at older people, covering falls prevention, winter warmth and keeping fit. They have all been very well received, with "I Fall" being a runner up in the national Community Care Awards.
These videos (also available in DVD format) have been acted, written and directed by local older people whose aim was to produce entertaining, useful and relevant information for their peers.
- 'Fit 4U' explains how older people of all backgrounds and ethnicities can get active and stay active as they get older.
- 'Eat or Heat' gives information on why warmth is important to health for older people and details different ways people can stay warm and healthy in the winter. It also gives advice on the many grants and organisations that can help older people keep their homes warmer.
- 'I Fall' is about being aware of what can cause falls and how to prevent them.
- We also have a Chinese Falls video, which covers the same information for the Chinese community.
There will soon be a new video/DVD about the Carers Centre.
