Community
The Community section of this site brings together the many projects and services aimed at building communities and encouraging community involvement; from reducing social isolation of older people to providing a space for minority communities to come together.
Health and happiness are dependent on many factors including physical and mental wellbeing. Research conducted in the US has shown that people who have a strong sense of social inclusion are more satisfied with their lives than those who do not. This research showed that those who regularly attended local groups had a raised level of life satisfaction equivalent to their incomes being doubled.
Many of our projects, such as older people's friendship clubs and community allotments, aim to build communities and promote social cohesion. We also recognise that encouraging people to become involved in their local communities can benefit not only the community but the individual too
