Angel Radio

Angel Radio is a community based radio station catering for the mature listener. Funding was provided by Social Services and Health. Radio has proved to be a good way of getting information to the public and both organisations contributed further by supplying informative programmes like Recipe Corner, advice on Falls Prevention, a food quiz and health promotion information. Older volunteers assist with the production of programmes, using the record library and presenting programmes on air.

Lifelong Learning funded the training sessions for volunteers. The trainees were identified as showing an interest in Angel Radio at a media event called "Tune In and Turn On" back in 2001. The training consisted of four five-hour sessions learning studio skills, using the record library and other aspects of running a radio station. Three of the trainees went live on air to present short programmes of their choice. This was a great accomplishment, as all were completely new to this medium.

Angel Radio continues to broadcast from its premises in Havant on 101.1FM and through its website http://angelradio.moonfruit.com/.
