Carers Support Groups

Carers support groups provide a valuable break and, apart from the comfort gained by moral support, there is the huge range of practical information that can only be supplied by a fellow carer.

Carers join groups for different reasons and get different things out of them. Here are just a few comments from carers about the benefits that they get from their group:
  • "My Salvation"
  • "Good ideas and provides information"
  • "It's nice to speak to someone who's not Social Services"
  • "I go for information and the facilities available"
  • "When I joined it made me aware that there are thousands of other young carers in the world"
  • "It helps to get away"
  • "It's Fun and takes your mind off things"
"Dear Jeanette" - a letter from a group member (in a pop-up window).

If you would like to discuss which group might be right for you, or would like support to attend, please contact the Carers Centre who will be happy to help you. We have an up-to-date list of all groups in Portsmouth, which is also available on our website. If you are interested in starting a new carers group, we will be happy to support you.

The current list of carers support groups in Portsmouth is available through the link below which when clicked will open a pop-up window.

The Support Groups are listed according to the days of the week they are held and describe when and where they are held and who the contact is. There are also the 2006 programmes for two support groups, for information and an idea of what goes on!
