Legislation

All carers have certain basic rights: largely a right to have their view taken into account by a social services department when it is considering how best to make provision for a disabled person.

As a Carer you may have wondered if you are entitled to any services from your Local Authority or any support from your employer. You may not have considered flexible working hours or sitting services because you did not know you could ask for them. Carers do have Rights and there are government policies/guidelines, which are designed to support Carers.

Carers that provide, or intend to provide a "substantial" amount of care on a regular basis have addition rights, in that they are entitled to have a separate "Carers Assessment".
