Emergency Respite

There are times when the unexpected can happen, and a Carer may not be able to provide the usual support to the person cared-for. This could be due to personal injury or accident or many other factors, including wider familial responsibilities. The important thing to know is that other arrangements can be made to keep things safe. Some families/friends are able to support each other in such situations for a short time, yet others are not able to.

If you are not able to make suitable arrangements in a crisis, then you need to contact social services and be clear that you cannot provide your normal care.

In the event of a crisis, additional care may be provided in the home, or in some circumstances a short residential stay may be needed.
