The Health Improvement & Development Service
The Health Improvement & Development Service is changing. From April 2013 all aspects of Public Health will be the responsibility of the local authority and we are revamping our service to reflect this statutory obligation. Colleagues from the NHS are already joining us to make a stronger team ready to take on the challenges of delivering good public health to Portsmouth.
More than the absence of disease, good health is also about mental, physical and social wellbeing. Recognising that social, economic & environmental factors all affect health; we are dedicated to improving health and wellbeing in Portsmouth and working for an enhanced quality of life for all.
HIDS Public Health is a multi-talented service working with the community to get people actively improving their health and providing a real choice when accessing help about health and social wellbeing. We encourage local people to be actively engaged in the planning, delivery and evaluation of our work, to develop strong and supportive communities.
We develop programmes, projects and services that allow vulnerable people to fulfil their real potential, live independently, improve social links and enrich quality of life, reducing the need to use mainstream health and social care services. Whilst the team has, on its own, developed some of our programmes and projects, many more represent partnership working with other organisations in the statutory, voluntary and private sectors.
On this site, through the drop-down menus above, you will find a wealth of information on services and projects aimed at a healthier, happier Portsmouth.
